Kuwait, Feb 12: Daaiz.Com conducted a day-long literary workshop on Konkani short stories (Kathapaatt) on the February 9, 2008 at Salmiya, Kuwait. Well-known Konkani writer Dolphy F Lobo (Dolfy Cassia), and Clara Lobo (Publisher) were felicitated by Daaiz members.
The workshop began at 10:30 am with an introduction by Valley Quadras, who highlighted the need of organizing literary workshops for creative literature. He stated that the prime objective of a writer should be literature and literary things and not conducting stage shows and programmes. It is sad that most of the literary associations focus more on conducting stage shows than organizing literary workshops.
Dolphy F Lobo (former editor of 'Jhelo Monthly', 'Mithr Weekly' and 'Kurov Monthly') who is on his short visit to Kuwait spoke on literature, various type of literature. creative literature and translations. He also shared his experience on the relationship between editor and a writer.
In the second session, Gibba Kulshekar, a down to earth, humble, the most respected Konkani writer in Kuwait shared his views on writing stories.
In the third part Valley Quadras presented his views on Clarence Pinto's short stories. He narrated a short story 'Ek Kudko Pizza' written by Clarence Kaikamba and its narration, subject, characters and the theme, which was followed by a debate amongst the participants.
In the fourth part Kevin D'Mello shared his views on 'Today's Konkani Short Stories'. He also selected a Kannada short story 'BUGURI' and narrated how a short story should be.
Melvin J Vas stated that a story writer should have responsibility rather than just urge to write a story. For a writer, writing a short story is a media to reach his reader and convey the message.
In the post-lunch session, Cyril Peris entertained with a melodious Konkani songs. Priya Sequeira conducted games to entertain the participants.
In the concluding part Dolphy F Lobo and Clara Lobo were felicitated for their contribution to Konkani literature for more than 25 years. The felicitation included manport, a memento and books published by Ashawadi Prakashan. Priya Sequeira read the Manport and Gibba Kulshekar handed it over to Clara Lobo. Melvin J Vas read the Manpotr and Benna Fajir handed it over to Dolfy Cassia.
After being felicitated, Dolphy Cassia said "Though I never thought I did anything in Konkani for the felicitation, however, I must appreciate the efforts of daaiz in promoting Konkani language and regularly conducting such creative workshops"
Henry Lewis recited a poem 'Vaath' written on Dolphy Cassia. He also proposed vote of thanks.
