Tamilnadu, Jan 23: Hogenakal Falls, a panoramic sight surrounded by hills, is one of the beautiful water falls in southern India on the Kaveri river. The water fall is in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, along the border with Karnataka.
Situated 150 km from Bangalore, it is one of the well known tourist attractions. As the water falls with force on the rocks, it looks as if the smoke is emanating from the rocks giving a smoky effect. In Kannada, Hoge means Smoke and Kal means rock, thus the name ‘Hogenakal.’
In some places where the water falls from as good as 20 m height, it sounds like continuous thunder. At Hogenakal, the Kaveri river drops into the low elevation thus creating numerous waterfalls as the water cuts through the rocky terrain.
Hogenakal is considered a sacred bathing place and a spa-like health resort.
