Mangaluru, Sep 30: As the Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release 6000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu between October 1, 2016 and October 6 on Friday September 30, former union minister B Janardhana Poojary said, “Don’t release water to Tamil Nadu. On behalf of six crore people in the state, I am ready to go to jail.”
He was addressing a press meet at premises of Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple here on Friday September 30.
“Order from the Supreme Court is massive blow to the people of Karnataka. Court should understand that Karnataka state is facing the water problem and we are not against the court. There is no water for the people of Karnataka. From where do we release the water to Tamil Nadu?”
“Supreme Court should understand the situation of Karnataka. There is water in Mettur dam for the people of Tamil Nadu not only for drinking but for agriculture. Monsoon in Karnataka will end but in Tamil Nadu monsoon has just started.”
On Tamil Nadu Chief minister Jayalalitha being hospitalized, Poojary said, “I learnt through media that condition of CM Jayalalitha is critical. The Tamil Nadu governor is silent on this issue. He should open his mouth and tell the nation about her condition. If her condition is critical why she has not been taken to Singapore for treatment?"
