Mangaluru, Sep 28: A speeding car that was reportedly being driven recklessly jumped over the road divider before hitting a motor bike moving on the other side of the road. The car caused the death of a pedestrian near Thokkottu Kapikad on NH 66 on the night of Tuesday September 27, while seriously injuring the bike rider.
The rider of the motor bike has been admitted to a hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Kanwatheertha resident, Gangadhar K M (45). Bhagwan Das, who was riding the motor bike, was seriously injured. He is recovering in a hospital in the city.
The car in question is owned by proprietor of Mangalore sweets at Thokkottu. It was being driven by his son from Talapady to Thokkottu. The driver lost control over the vehicle as a result of which the car went over the divider near Kapikad before hitting the motor bike that was moving towards Talapady from Thokkottu and also a pedestrian. An angry mob which gathered at the spot soon after the accident was about to damage the car in question, but the police who arrived on time averted any damage.
A group of youth from Kumpala helped to shift the injured person and the body of the deceased to the hospital. Gangadhar, the deceased, was a carpenter by profession, and has left behind a son and wife.
