Sullia, Sep 21: Chairperson of Karnataka State Social Welfare Board, Divyaprabha Chilthadka, has accused leaders of BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad of being indirectly responsible for religious conversions.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday September 20, she said that BJP leaders visit mosques and announce grants whenever elections are round the corner. They also appease Muslims and seek their votes, she alleged.
"We are opposed to forcible religious conversions. I have requested police officers to take action wherever it is found that pressure is exerted on people to get converted to another religion. No political party can stop religious conversions," she reasoned.
At the same time, Divyaprabha asserted that transformation cannot be brought about through protests and processions. She felt that the parents have a duty to impart knowledge about religion to their children. She questioned as to whether holding of protests when elections are near will enable organizations and leaders to hoodwink people.
Aletty gram panchayat member, Jayalata Aramboor, was present at the press conference.
