Mangaluru, Sep 20: Rakshith Salian of SDM College of Business Management took charge as the president of Mangalore University All College Students' Union (ACSU) for the academic year 2016-17 here on Monday September 19.
Two minutes silence was observed to pay respect to the martyred soldiers who lost their lives in terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.
In the inaugural function of the Union held at Town Hall here, MCC mayor K Harinath and ‘Mungaru Male 2’ actress, Neha Shetty along with Youth Congress president Mithun Rai inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Neha Shetty said, “I congratulate the president and all the newly elected office bearers of ACSU. I convey my best wishes for their success.”
K Harinath said, “I am really happy to witness such a huge audience here in Town hall for the program organized by ACSU. Students who are educated in University College have reached great heights in various fields. In the recent past the student’s organizations were not that active but I am happy that under the leadership of Mithun Rai the organization is doing lot of good work.”
“Today lot of students organizations are being misused for wrong means. I call upon the members of ACSU to stand by truth and be on the right path always. Through ACSU let us build a peaceful and harmonious society. I wish all the very best to all the newly elected office bearers and president of ACSU Rakshith Salian.”
Rakshith Salian said, “I thank all each and everyone for choosing me as the president of ACSU. I thank Mithun Rai for his support in reaching this position.”
About five physically challenged students were honoured and given scholarship by the ACSU. Suresh K, traffic police constable who acted as a good-Samaritan and returned back Rs 22,600 few days ago in city was also felicitated on the occasion.
Facebook page of ACSU was launched and a rally was flagged off by Neha Shetty which began at Town hall and ended near SDM College.
Corporators, Praveen Chandra Alva, Abdul Rauf, former mayor Ashraf and others were present.
