Kasargod, Sep 20: A teenager, overtaken by grief at the demise of his beloved, hanged himself. The incident occurred on Monday September 19 at Parappa in the district.
Nandakumar (19) and Radhika (15), residents of Nelliyara Colony at Parappa, were deeply in love with each other. While Nandakumar was a coolie by profession, Radhika was a tenth standard student of Banam high school.
For some reason, both were found to be lying in serious condition after consuming poisonous substance at a deserted spot near their homes about a week back. Some locals, who saw them, rushed them to hospital. Nandakumar recovered after two days of treatment and was discharged from hospital. But Radhika's condition remained critical, and she died on Sunday.
Nandakumar had disappeared from home since he came to know that Radhika was no more. His family members who went searching for him found him hanging from a tree on Monday.
The reason behind the decision of the two to end lives together is not clear, although it is suspected that being educated, Radhika's parents may have opposed the relationship. Vellarikundu police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
