Udupi, Sep 12: ‘Namma Mane Namma Mara’ - our homes our trees team, here on Sunday September 11 organized ‘Pancha Shakti Aranya Nirmana’ to promote forests.
The programme was held at Saldanha House, Inna, with the co-operation of Hoige Friends, Hoige Palimar in collaboration with Paryaya Sri Pejawar Math.
An agriculture based family came forward to develop the forest on their 1.4 acre land by planting 1001 different saplings.
The land belongs to Lakshmikant Rao and Vedavati, located at Inna, Karkala taluk. They had been planning this noble work since five months. This was organised with a commitment of developing forests and a vision to contribute a valuable gift to the future generation. He has laid 1.5 km long pipes for water sprinkling.
"This is a huge responsibility of not only planting saplings but also protecting each sapling with utmost care. The family has collected 5,000 different breeds and the forest will be reserved for birds as well as animals. The trees help to increase ground water level. The water remains for a year even in the summer," explained Laxmikant. "The forest comprises of 24 different breeds of herbal saplings and other forms of vegetation."
Dr A V Bhat delivered the keynote address.
A musical recital was organized to mark this noble task.
The green drive was led by three people namely Gururaj Sanil, Raviraj H P and Avinash Kamat.
Manohar Prasad, bureau chief of Udayavani, Mangaluru was the chief guest.
Dr Srikant Rao, children's specialist, I Chandrakant Rao, president, ABCD and E Trust, Reshma Uday Kumar Shetty, zilla panchayat member, Belman constituency and others were present.
1,000 saplings were planted simultaneously on the land. People of all ages enthusiastically partipated in the work.
