Kundapur, Sep 10: An expert committee accompanied by National Highway 66 project director Samson Vijayakumar on instructions from National Highway Authority chief general manager Rajiv Reddy visited the place meant for construction of a flyover at Basruru Moorukai on September 10. They held detailed discussions with former MP Jayaprakash Hegde and obtained information.
Jayaprakash Hegde speaking on the occasion said that Basruru Moorukai is a place where National Highway and state highway meet with dense vehicular traffic. “As thousands of cars, lorries, buses and ten wheeled goods vehicles ply on the road daily, the flyover should be constructed anticipating the traffic density during the next fifty years. As the underpass will increase traffic jams, only a flyover should be constructed,” he said.
“The underpasses constructed at Koteshwara, Kota and Brahmavara have caused traffic jams as the nearby service roads are narrow. There is a possibility of increased accidents here. Therefore the service roads should be widened and flyovers should be constructed at Ambalpady and Katpady instead of underpasses,” he said.
The flyover campaign committee head Basruru Narendra Shetty on public demand handed over the blueprint prepared by him for the flyover.
Municipal council president Vasanthi Saranga, vice president Rajesh Kaveri, members Pushpa Shet, Jyothi Ganesh Kodi, Gunarathna, Kalakshetra Kundapur president Kishore Kumar, Koni Narayana Achar and members of Janapara Pragathipara Vedike were present.
