Mangalore, Dec 12: "Here, we sell books to help the trust ‘Gopal Educational and Social Charitable Trust’ situated in Bangalore, which looks after about 50 children who have been deprived of proper parental care," said Ananda P, proprietor of AVM Book Center, at Hotel Woodlands, in the city, on Wednesday, December 12.
"We have been into the venture-cum-social service for the past 15 years and Mangalore is the second city next to Bangalore where we have set up book stall where 2 lac books worth almost Rs 25 lac are on sale," he stated while addressing media persons at their venue.
It is not true that the number of reader are decreasing owing to mushrooming of channels. On the contrary there has been steady increase in the number of readers. Now the realm of authorship has been expanded, with up-coming writers contributing invaluable books to the literary sphere which has been blessed with established prolific writers. Hence, their contributions have truly enriched the writing significantly, he opined.
Story, novels, books related to literature, engineering, medicine, technology, general knowledge, education, quiz competitive exams, computers, encyclopedias, CDs, dictionaries and other books are available at the stall. The exhibition-cum-sale would be open till Sunday December 30 from 10 am to 9 pm, he added.
