Mangaluru, Nov 28: The demands of the people in the Ullal assembly constituency are being gradually addressed, and one of the major demands, the establishment of a fire brigade in Ullal, has been approved, said Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and MLA of the constituency, U T Khader.

Speaking at a press conference at the Circuit House in the city on Thursday, he informed that land for the fire brigade station had been identified in Fajir, measuring 2 acres, and the construction of the fire safety system would cost approximately Rs 9 crore. He also mentioned that the funds have been released, and work will begin soon.

Khader further stated that Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the development of roads in the constituency. Among these, the development of the Thokkotu-Mudipu road was inaugurated on Wednesday. This road will have a 6-lane section in some places, and expansion work will be carried out in others. Some damaged roads will be repaired under the CRP scheme. The tender process for this Rs 6 crore project has been completed.

Regarding the electricity supply, he mentioned that a new substation in Thokkotu and an underground cable system for the distribution of power in Ullal would cost Rs 200 crore. The work on a new substation in Kotekar is in the final stages. Currently, electricity is being distributed to Ullal through the Kavoor-Konaje-Thokkotu feeder, which has some issues. To resolve this, an underground cable system will be installed directly from Mangaluru to Thokkotu, which will address the electricity supply issues in Ullal in the future, he assured.

Khader also emphasized that priority will be given to improving roads, education, and drinking water systems. A portion of the road funds will be allocated for educational infrastructure development. Rs 5 crore will be used for the development of buildings in high schools, PU colleges, and degree colleges. In the future, funds for road development will be used for the improvement of primary schools, he added.

For the development of each village, Rs 1 crore will be allocated, and larger village panchayats will receive higher grants. A new circuit house will be built in Konaje. He assured that efforts would be made to provide basic amenities to the people of Ullal.

Khader further stated that the government does not provide grants easily, and legislators must work hard to secure them. He mentioned that significant funds have been released for the development of the drainage system in Ullal.

Jeppina Mogru underpass work to be completed soon

For the development of the town, the cooperation of public representatives, organizations, and the local community is essential. The railway underpass work at Jeppina Mogru is expected to be completed by the end of December, he said.

Khader also emphasized that permanent measures must be taken to prevent coastal erosion. While there has been some control over it now, further steps will be taken for beach development. He assured that tourist safety will be a priority for resorts, and regulations for resorts and homestays have been formulated.
