Ballari, Aug 16: On the occasion of 70th independence day celebrations, Student Congress took out a procession with a kilometre-long national flag in the city. The flag which was held by over 5,000 children was six feet wide and 3,350 feet long.
The procession was flagged off at government women's college premises at 8 am by district president of National Students Union of India, Siddu Hallegowda, and vice president of college managing committee, Shobha Kalinga. The procession moved through Station road Moti Circle, and Rangamandira Road before reaching the district stadium. The flag was taken around the stadium by over 5,000 students from different schools and colleges.
A 1,000 feet-long national flag that was brought from Roddam in Andhra pradesh in Rabakavi-Banahatti twin towns in Bagalkot district. Minister, Umashree, inaugurated the procession at the new bus stand. The procession moved through main streets of the town, and over 10,000 persons participated. People welcomed the flag by drawing Rangolies and offering flowers.
At Davanagere, activists of Bhagat Singh Brigade took a 1,001 feet-long tricolour through the city, with the participation of a large number of people. In Doddabalapur and Mandya too, national flags that were 200 feet and 260 feet long respectively, were taken in processions.
