Kundapur, Aug 12: As power suddenly began to be transmitted through the wires when new power connection was being given to a new house near Rama Mandir at Kody here on Wednesday August 11, a contract worker attending to electric works died. He has been identified as Narasimha (22), who belonged too Dharmapuri district in Tamil Nadu.
Narasimha was staying with his father, Sampath, in a rented house at Udupi. He attended to the work of providing electricity connections from electric poles on contract basis. Jayaram Shetty, a contractor from Udupi, had been allotted with the contract work concerning giving new power connection in Kody area within the municipal jurisdiction here. Shetty in turn, had engaged Sampath for doing this work.
On Thursday, Narasimha was working on the electric pole when electricity started flowing in the wire. Narasimha suffered severe shocks and was in critical condition. His brother, Saravana, who also was working on the electric pole, also suffered electric shocks but survived without much damage.
There was some delay in carrying seriously injured Narasimha to hospital. He died on way to hospital. He is survived by wife and a year-old son.
Local station house officer, Nassir Hussain, and staff visited the spot and took up investigation. A case was registered in the police station here.
