Mangaluru, Aug 8: World Breastfeeding week was inaugurated at the Hospital Conference Hall of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, here on August 1 at 10 am. Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant administrator of the hospital was chief guest and Dr Naveen Chandra, taluk health officer; Mangaluru was the guest of honor.
The theme ‘Breast feeding: a key to sustainable development’ was unfolded by Dr Naveen Chandra and he enlightened the audience on the importance of breastfeeding and focused on the activities of the government in promoting mother and child health. A poster competition was organized on the occasion and best poster was awarded. Fr Ajith Menezes, chief guest congratulated the organizers for observing the week and promoting the practice of natural nourishment through breastfeeding. He appreciated the mothers and encouraged them to continue selflessly giving of themselves and sharing their lives in the upbringing of their families.
On August 2, a health play on the 'Importance of Breastfeeding' was staged by the OBG nursing post graduate students of the College of Nursing at the Anganwadi of Community Health Centre, Bantwal along with the Women and Child Development Society of Bantwal Taluk. Various areas of the theme were also depicted in the play and it was well appreciated by the organizers and the audience. The programme ended with refreshments.
