The petty shops on Manipal-Perampalli road were being shifted on Thursday evening, August 4 beside the auto stand on Manipal Deputy Commissioner road after obtaining permission from municipal council standing committee due to widening of the road.

Meanwhile council president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje had ordered in the early morning for demolishing petty shops belonging to Narayana and Sadananda Poojary. The demolishing of those shops ignoring opposition from municipal council standing committee by president Meenakshi acting like a dictator angered the standing council president Prashanth Bhat, ruling party members of municipal council and the people.

When Prashanth Bhat tried to telephone Meenakshi, her mobile was switched off.

Former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat telephoned commissioner Manjunathayya and explained the tense situation at the place. Manjunathayya ordered to leave the petty shops as they are. However the traders and people urged to repair the shops as they were damaged in the operation.
