London, Aug 6 (IANS): Liverpool's James Milner has retired from international football after a discussion with the England team's newly-appointed coach Sam Allardyce.
The midfielder has been part of the England squad in the last four major international tournaments and accumulated 61 games with the national team, although in the last European Championship he was on the pitch for only three minutes, EFE news reported.
"I would like to thank Sam for taking the time to come and see me in person and have the conversation face-to-face, regarding my international future and role within the England setup," the player said in a statement on Friday.
"I think the decision we have reached is all about common sense. I wish Sam, the players, staff and supporters success in the future," he added.
