Bengaluru, Aug 4: Additional charge sheet was filed in the special Lokayukta court here on Wednesday August 3, duly naming retired state Lokayukta, Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, as the seventh accused.
The 550-page additional charge sheet concerning a case in which engineer, M N Krishnamurthy, was threatened and an attempt was made to pressurize him to part with one crore rupees, was submitted to judge of the court, Devendran.
The charge sheet alleges that although Justice Rao did not have any direct role in the irregularities happening in the Lokayukta, he was aware of the goings on and that he had contacts with main accused. Several circumstantial evidences have been sighted to drive home this point, duly treating some officials as witnesses. Sources said that charges under different sections of Indian Penal Code have been levelled.
Head of the Special Investigating Team, explaining about the delay in filing charge sheet, cited that prior permission from the governor is necessary for prosecuting the former Lokayukta. Permission was obtained recently. Therefore, although investigations were completed long back, charge sheet could be submitted only now, the team said.
