Rio de Janeiro, Aug 3 (IANS): The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has thrown out the appeal filed by 17 Russian rowers against their exclusion from 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to media reports on Wednesday.
The World Rowing Federation (FISA) ruled earlier that only six out of 28 Russian rowers are allowed to compete in Rio, while the rest are banned from the Games as they lack doping tests made outside Russia, reports Tass.
Following the FISA decision, Russian rowing boats which qualified for the Olympics in the LM4-, LW2x, M8 and W8 classes have been banned from competitions, as reported by Insidethegames.biz portal.
Their quotas will be handed over to other rowing crews in accordance with the rankings of the final qualifying Regatta held in Luzern in May 2016: LM4-Greece; M8 - Italy; W8 - Australia and LM2x - Italy.
The Olympic Summer Games will take place from August 5 to 21.
