Udupi, Jul 24: “It is shocking news for people of Brahmavar constituency that the Karnataka housing board has started allotting land for house sites reserved for constructing Brahmavar taluk office building,” said Karnataka housing board, former MLA Raghupati Bhat at the press club Brahmagiri on Saturday, July 23.
“The BJP members will hold a protest rally against the distribution of land on Monday, July 25,” he said.
“People in the district had lots of expectation from minister and district-in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj, but he failed us. He is the second minister of Udupi next to Manorama Madhwaraj.”
“In 2013 when Bhat was the MLA, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar had reserved 13.20 acres of land under budget for taluk office building. But now half of the land (six acres) has been distributed by Karnataka housing board without any notice to develop housing layout.”
Objecting the sanction of land, Raghupati Bhat said, “Land situated in the heart of the city comes under Indiranagara, Varamaballi gram panchayat. The land is being sold at Rs 30,000 per cent. The board has paid Rs 1,80,000 to government.”
“The board is receiving double payment from their clients. If it is sold to public, it is very clear that becoming Brahmavar taluk is faraway dream. If they decided to place a commercial layout, where will they build taluk office building?"
BJP members have decided to hold a protest on Monday July 25 opposing distribution of land by Karnataka housing board.
Pratap Hegde, Suprasad Shetty Baikady, Sudhir Shetty, Kamalaksha Hebbar, Rajiv Kulal, Mahendra and others were present.
