Mangaluru, Jul 21: The entire coastline of Karnataka received good rainfall on Wednesday July 20. Good rains were reported from Sullia, Bantwal, Puttur and Beltangady taluks.
Udupi district, which had witnessed a sharp fall in rainfall since a couple of days, saw rain resuming in intensity on Wednesday. All the three taluks in the district got good rainfall.
A huge tree fell across the state highway near Benaka Hospital Ujire on Wednesday evening, posing problem for movement of traffic.
Sea erosion began to create problems at Uchchila and Ullal, and a beach house belonging to a family from Kerala at Uchchila partially crashed. Over ten houses and beach houses at Uchchila have already been demolished by surging waves, and the task of stacking boulders to protect the remaining houses is going on. If the erosion continues, a private beach house at New Uchchila and Someshwar-Uchchila beach road are likely to be washed away by the sea. Waves are also lashing houses at Ullal.
As huge waves are hitting the concreted fisheries road near Udayavara Padukare, Malpe, the road is facing the prospect of crumbling. In places like Anjaneya Bhajana Mandir in Udyavar Padukare, boulders stacked earlier have been gobbled up by sea, and several coconut trees have been uprooted. A four km concrete road built under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak scheme is facing risk of getting demolished. Because of advancing waves, sand has got accumulated across several roads.
