B'lore: No Unconditional Support to BJP: Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, Nov 2: Two days after his father and JDS chief H D Devegowda shot off a 12-point MOU to the BJP, former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday said his party has not offered "unconditional" support to the saffron party-led government.

"In our letter submitted to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, we have only declared support to the BJP-led government headed by its party leader B S Yeddyurappa," he told PTI here.

Referring to the MOU mooted by Gowda, he sought to label them as "suggestions" and asked the BJP not to treat them as "conditions".

Kumaraswamy said that on October 27, the day JDS pledged its support to the BJP government, the party's senior leaders, including M Venkaiah Naidu and Yeddyurappa pointed out that the earlier power sharing pact struck between the parties in 2006 would be valid for renewed ties.

He said he had told the BJP leaders that they can discuss and finalise new proposals, if any.

"The BJP need not nurture apprehensions over the MOU mooted by my father," Kumaraswamy said.

Meanwhile, JDS spokesman Y S V Datta said there was a need to alter and make additions to the new set of proposals to ensure smooth relations between the partners.

Leaders from both the parties could sit arrive at a consensus, he said.

Gowda, in his MOU, wants to keep options for the partners to walk out of the coalition in the event of any deviation from the understanding and also dissolution of the state assembly if the country faced mid-term polls to the Lok Sabha.
