Bangalore, Oct 28: A joint legislature party meeting of BJP and JD(S) is to be convened here on Monday to discuss current political situation, former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa, who has staked claim to form a new government, said on Sunday.

"Legislators of both the parties will meet tomorrow (Monday)", Yeddyurappa told the press.

He said both the parties were contemplating to submit sworn affidavits individually by MLAs to Governor Rameshwar Thakur in an apparent move to mount pressure on him.

The move is also seen as a strategy to inform the Governor that there was no division in JD(S) and all the legislators of the party supported the BJP-led coalition.

Yeddyurappa had on Saturday staked claim to form the government after JD(S) pledged support to BJP.

Karnataka development is 'rank opportunism', says Left

HT

New Delhi: The coming together again of BJP and JD-S in Karnataka has evoked severe criticism from the Left parties who have termed the development as "rank opportunism", which will lead to communal tension in the southern state.

CPM polit bureau said that the coming together of the two parties to form a BJP-led government is a "sordid spectacle". "The rank opportunism of JD-S and the BJP's lust for power has betrayed the aspirations of the people of Karnataka," it said.

The party feels that such an exercise is an exercise in futility. Seeking fresh mandate from the people is only plausible solution to the present political crisis in the state.

The CPI has described the happenings as a "serious development" which has opened a window for the BJP to find a foothold in the southern region. "It will add to the communal tension in Karnataka where the party along with VHP has in the past attempted to communalise the situation," the party said.

Expressing surprise on JD-S leadership's sudden decision to back a BJP-led government, the CPI said that repeated change of stance by the former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's party is a "record in opportunism". "JD-S plea that it made a common cause with the BJP to prevent a split in its ranks is unconvincing," a CPI statement added.

Governor says he has not taken decision on BJP-JDS claim

Bangalore: Amid stepped up pressure on him by the BJP-JD(S) combine to consider its claim for government formation in Karnataka, Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said he was yet to take a decision in this regard.
"I have not yet taken a decision on government formation. I am in the process of consulting legal and constitutional experts," Thakur told reporters in response to a query on the BJP staking claim to form government with JDS support.

"After taking a decision, I will inform you (media)", he said.
