Budapest, May 4 (IANS): UEFA secretary-general Theodore Theodoridis has said suspended Michel Platini could return to the European football governing body's presidency in two weeks, depending on the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the Frenchman's appeal.
At the end of the UEFA Congress held here on Tuesday, Theodoridis said the decision will be made by the executive committee which will meet on May 18 in Basel, where the final of the Europa League tournament will be held.
If CAS dismisses Platini's appeal and maintains its suspension, UEFA will have to call for elections for the presidency.
CAS considered on April 29 the appeal made by Platini, president of UEFA since 2007 until world football governing body FIFA disqualified him last October, first for eight years and then for six.
The court is expected to issue a verdict on May 9.
