Bengaluru, Nov 20 (DHNS): A sub-inspector played a Good Samaritan and facilitated the delivery of a pregnant woman near Gali Anjaneya temple in Byatarayanapura. The cop made arrangements for her to deliver the baby on the roadside.
Around 9.15 am, Sub-inspector Gopalakrishna, attached to the Byatarayanapura station, was monitoring traffic at the busy junction. He noticed a pregnant woman struggling to walk. She collapsed on the ground, police said.
Gopalakrishna rushed to her and soon sought the help of BBMP women pourakarmikas. The woman was shifted to an open space near the Gali Anjaneya flyover. The SI contacted ‘108’ ambulance, but he soon realised that the woman could not be shifted to the hospital. With the help of the pourakarmikas, he collected some clothes.
The pourakarmikas surrounded the woman, holding the clothes as a screen. Everybody heaved a sigh of relief and congratulated Gopalakrishna after the women there announced the birth of a baby girl. Soon, the ambulance reached the spot. The woman and her baby were shifted to Vani Vilas Hospital.
The mother, Selvi R, 23, a native of Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu, and her baby are doing fine. She is married to Raju and parted ways with him and her in-laws due to domestic issues. She arrived in the City to go to a hospital for childbirth.
