Kundapur, Oct 11: Dramatist Sadananda Suvarna was conferred the 11th Dr Shivaram Karanth award in a glittering ceremony at Kota convened by Kotathattu gram panchayat in collaboration with Kota Dr Shivaram Karanth award committee and Dr Shivaram Karanth trust Udupi on Saturday October 10.
"Dr Karanth was not only an author but a humanitarian who watched the ongoing events from close quarters and responded accordingly. He was the wonder person of the 20th century. He was the soul of coastal Karnataka. I am privileged to receive the award instituted in his name at his native," said Sadananda Suvarna the veteran dramatist and confidante of Dr Shivaram Karanth after receiving the award.
"Dr Karanth, a high stature in literature, contributed immensely through his vast experience. Though he was disciplined, he was humane too. He adopted experimentation in his life and brought about change and newness in art and cultural world. In short, he was a genius." Suvarna added.
"His name should spread everywhere from Kota and be made memorable. His achievements should reach the next generations. The present generation should read his literature. His thinking and life should be followed."Suvarna concluded.
MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary who inaugurated the function said "It is commendable that Kotathattu village, one among 6014 villages in the state, has been giving this award to achievers from the past eleven years. The award has international recognition. Karanth is the son of this soil. He will always remain evergreen. Activities, programmes and award function are held in his name every year. Kota theme park is one among them."
Writer A S N Hebbar said "Dr Karanth is a Kohinoor of Kota. He had special leadership capabilities. Presently we do not have writers of those qualities. He had unique love for life. We can see his influence everywhere. But we still miss his presence in all the fields."
Kotathattu gram panchayat president Pramod Hande presided over the function. Heroine of ‘Yashoda’ serial Neetha Ashok, taluk panchayat member Raghavendra Kanchan, Bharath Kumar Shetty, Kota gram panchayat president Vanitha Sridhar Acharya, award committee member U S Shenoy, entrepreneur Dattananda Gangolli, renowned Malini Mallya, panchayat secretary Meera were present during the occasion.
