Udupi: Billava Yuva Vedike felicitates newly-elected GP members

Udupi, Oct 5: Udupi district Billava Yuva Vedike felicitated 292 newly-elected grama panchayat (GP) members at Arur Sri Laxminarayan Rao auditorium on Sunday October 4.












































District-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and congratulated all winning candidates. He said that the grama panchayat is only one system in which the public have direct communications and the GP has its own responsibilities.

He also said that the Billava Vedike has organized many useful programmes in two years. “An organization gives strength to work. Our children are our future and we have people with potential in the society, but need to recognize them. Make use of available time honestly,” said Sorake.

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “There are 6,017 GPs in the state and approximately one lac people in the district. Out of the total, 52, 000 are women, 25, 000 are SCs, and 16, 000 are illiterates. Every last person (deprived) of the society should come to the mainstream.”

Addressing the elected GP members, he said, “Govern with all confidence and take part in government organized training programmes without fail. GP is meant for reaching government benefits to the public.”

All 292 elected GP Billava members received honours at the felicitation event. Dr Satish Poojary, president of the Vedike, presided over the programme.

Janardhan Thonse, president of town planning authority, Savita S Kotian, president of Udupi zilla panchayat, and Vishwanath Kalmady, treasurer, were present.

Praveen M Poojary presented the two-year annual report.

Achyuth Amin Kalmady, honourable president, welcomed the gathering and Shivprasad Palan Bengre, chief secretary, extended the vote of thanks. Dayanand Uggelbettu compered the programme.
