Udupi, Sep 12: The district committee of Karnataka State Disabled and Caregivers Federation staged a protest in front of the district health office in Ajjarkad on Friday September 11 seeking fulfillment of their demands.
Manjunath Hebbar said, “The criteria imposed on Endosulfan victims is wrong. The considered department has to conduct inspection again and isolate the various categories. They have to provide all government facilities to true Endosulfan beneficiaries. But officials keep away from some families only due to some regional issues.”
Demands include the following:
· As per the High Court verdict, a person who depends on his /her parent to his for their daily routine should be considered as 100 percent disabled. Universally valid identity cards must be provided for every disabled person
· Four mobile units must be initiated in the district (Kundapur-2, Karkala-1, Udupi-1) and a proposal had been sent about this. Free bus passes must be provided for travelling and the the High Court had passed a verdict on this
· Immediate action must be taken to prevent birth of disabled infants by ultrasound scanning method
· An appeal has been sent to reserve 1,496 sq ft of land for constructing Endosulfan nurturing and permanent rehabilitation center at Yedtere Kundapur taluk. No action has been taken on its execution
· The government has ordered provision of Rs 3,000 to those who have 60 percent of physical problems and Rs 1, 500 for less than 60 percent disability. The government has to work on launching an Endosulfan cell committee for the rehabilitation and betterment of Endosulfan victims
· The monthly allowances should reach the certified family within the 10th of every month
A memorandum including more than 25 demands was submitted to DHO Rohini, Udupi district. Venkatesh Koni, Krishna Poojary, Babu K Dewadiga, and Radhakrishna D were present.
