Davanagere, Sep 11: An incident in which a man was smothered to death and then buried inside the puja room of the family house came to the fore after a gap of five hours.
Laxman from Nelahonne village in Honnali taluk in the district was killed by his own wife and her paramour. His wife, Gangamma, and her lover, Jagadish, have been accused of committing this dastardly act. The incident came to light after Laxman's daughter, Usha, filed a complaint in Honnali police station.
"My mother, Gangamma, had illicit relationship with Jagadish from our own village. When I was studying in ninth standard, there was fight between my parents on this issue. My mother and Jagadish together smothered my father to death by pressing a pillow hard against his face," Usha explained in her complaint.
She says that Gangamma and Jagadish then dug a pit inside the puja room of the house and buried the mortal remains of her father there. "When I questioned them about this act, they threatened to murder me in the same manner. My mother also used to torture me and my brother, Sanjay, by not providing food properly," she has alleged.
Based on the complaint, police circle inspector, Maheshwara Gowda, visited Gangamma's house on Thursday, and dug out the mortal remains of Laxman in the present of assistant commissioner, Kumaraswamy. Samples of the skeletal remains were sent for forensic examination.
The police circle inspector said further action would be taken on receipt of DNA test report.
