Rio de Janeiro, Aug 27 (IANS): Brazilian volleyball veteran Serginho said he will have gold on his mind as he attempts to end his decorated career with one last Olympic triumph at the Rio 2016 Games.

"I take care of myself. I don't drink, I don't smoke and I believe that rest is a crucial part of training," Xinhua reported quoting Serginho.

"I'm very happy to be playing at the highest level at 39. I hope to be well next year and give my best to win a gold medal and make history," Seginho told Rio2016.com on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old libero was part of the Brazil team that won gold at Athens 2004 and silver at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

He attributes his sporting longevity to a healthy lifestyle and disciplined training regime, a combination he hopes will help bring more success next year.

Serginho said his earliest Olympic memory is of watching Joaquim Cruz beat Seb Coe to the 800m gold medal in Los Angeles in 1984.

Apart from his vast on-court success, Serginho said some of his most cherished Olympic moments have been inside the Olympic village.

"The feeling when you enter the Olympic village is surreal," he said.
