Mangaluru, Aug 15: Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress have submitted a memorandum to city police commissioner S Murugan, demanding stringent action against the admin of 'Rana Kahale News' Facebook page for allegedly uploading derogatory posts against district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai.
In the memorandum, the Youth Congress alleged that a Facebook page named as 'Rana Kahale News' has been posting derogatory, defaming and insulting posts against respected people, and that the page is also trying to disrupt communal harmony in society. "Such posts in Facebook may lead to disruption of communal harmony in a sensitive district like ours and create panic," the memorandum stated.
"On August 12, the Facebook page posted derogatory remarks against Mithun Rai and our organization. Moreover, his photographs were used to defame his image. This act is offensive under the IPC and IT Act. Hence the police department should ban 'Rana Kahale News' Facebook page and take stringent action against those who posted the derogatory comments on Mithun Rai," the Youth Congress urged.
Speaking to daijiworld, Mithun Rai said, "A Facebook page named 'Rana Kahale News' created by Prasad Kalladka posted derogatory content against me, with an intention to defame me."
On Youth Congress hoisting its party flag on the pole meant for hoisting the National Flag, he said, "We organized this programme as per the tenets of the Constitution. BJP is unneccesarily politicising the issue and trying to give political colour to the incident. We have even apologized for
our act through the press."
He also questioned as to why BJP was silent when a separatist in Kashmir was let free by the PDP-BJP government, when Pakistani flag was waved in Kashmir recently.
He also said that the police commissioner has assured that he would take suitable action against those who defamed him on the Facebook page.
Corporator A C Vinayaraj, Praveen Chandra Alva, Vishwas Das, Nagendra and many supporters of Mithun Rai was present while submitting the memorandum.
