Panaji, May 30: An excise inspector in Goa was suspended while three senior police officials were transferred on Tuesday for "not adhering to the instructions of the Election Commission."

Assembly elections in Goa will be held on June 2. Inspector Anant Parab, posted at Valpoi constituency, where chief minister Pratapsingh Rane's son Vishwajeet is contesting as an independent candidate, was suspended by commissioner P S Reddy for allegedly furnishing wrong information to the Election Observer.

The state excise department has intensified its drive against liquor outlets selling liquor after stipulated time and has also suspended the licences of some of them.

Meanwhile, three policemen – deputy superintendent of police Waman Tari, police inspectors C L Patil and S Narvekar - were ordered to be shifted from their current positions.

The Election Commission on Monday night ordered their transfer and they were shifted on Tuesday morning.

This is the third time that the Election Commission has taken action against police officials.

Earlier, superintendent of police D K Sawant and police inspector Raju Raut Desai were suspended for alleged dereliction of duties while DIG Ujjwal Mishra was shifted from poll duties.
