Mangaluru: Serial accident near Bikarnakatte - Five injured

Mangaluru, Jul 25: Five persons were injured in a serial accident involving five vehicles near Bikarnakatte here on Saturday July 25.

The accident took place when a Sri Vasuki bus plying from BC Road to State Bank rammed into an Alto car, an auto rickshaw, an Activa and a bike.

Among the five injured, the bike rider is said to be serious. All the injured have been admitted to hospital.

All the five vehicles were damaged, the auto rickshaw more than the others.

It is said that the bus driver lost control over the vehicle due to brake failure.

The driver and the conductor of the bus fled from the spot soon after the accident.

Kadri traffic police have registered a case.

    Brake-failure? Then driver and also the owner of the bus must be put behind bars, because the vehicle that is not in proper condition can not be used either in public place or for public. Even RTO can be held responsible for allowing the vehicle to ply which is not in right condition.

    Who is to be blamed for this sad state of affairs?

    As passengers in the bus- we want the bus to reach the destination as fast as possible. If we the passengers - protest then perhaps bus drivers can be controlled?
    How do we increase our unity and voice and awareness - if my bus is speeding -
    1.demand the ticket money back?
    2. If my bus is using harsh horns- protest? Is there a number to call ?
    3. Can we record using our cell phones or mobile ( evidence) ?

    We need to create a volunteer organization - not for Congress not for BJP but for ourselves. If there are organizations for animals ( animal activists) why cant we start one for protecting our senior citizens?
    how do we put up with the fact that senior citizens and others die in a manner worse than animals?

    If the situation is like this and continues like this - only we the citizens are to be blamed not any one else. We are too busy with our own selves , we expect others to do the social work.

    Some time young drivers become heroes by speeding, sometime old or seniors standing in bus stop than not stopping because delaying when they enter,(no mercy) some time 1-2 passengers stand than also no stop, they want more passengers, some time just entering may only one leg no time to keep second leg or enter completely. Conductors say right go. Sometime taking money no tickets,or not returning change saying no change, giving later,later overflow middle of the passengers getting down cannot get,
    There is no rules, systems, better to have machine system
    Mostly now much traffic, more people have own vehicles so roads are busy too
    I am not blaming all, there are good drivers also. May god bless them.

    1st of all this is kadri not bikarnakatte 2nd bus/lorry vl never gets brake fail vch is having air brake system, coz its having safety mechanism for brake fail concerns. and rear wheel gets jam at tat tm. So tis acc happnd due to negligence of bus driver. He lost his control bcoz of over speed..

    There is a commonsense to be apply Mr bus drivers please avoid putting so much horn it's killing people that sounds oh my god u just think all are all are your brothers and sisters enough it's more then enough to avoid road accident avoid over speed over take...just think Mr Mangalore RTO your work not only in the office come out side watch and educate the bus driver. ..please or one day your son or daughter fall in under bus tyre I am sure.

    My suggestion to RTO,
    Make an amendment in Public transport rules and include that the front 4 seater next to the driver and Gear to be reserved for Senior Citizens only, to avoid distraction and excuses like Brake failure.

    This because of trafic rules and regulation.RTO was giving driving license without proper road test.Please make sure the speed limit of city area for each and every vehicle.

    Hi all. My dad recent died because of this bus.he came and hit my father. Due to head injury he died the same. I lost my dad.. but bus fellow not punished.. instead they put blame on my dad saying he had vertigo problem and he talking in phone.. but this type of this did not happen at all.. he was going to Malaysia in 2 days.. so they tell this to cover up .. when will this rampage stops.. my when the bus owners family people will come under their own bus.. rash driving of bus driver and competition of the bus to come first.. make a common man loose their impt loved one..

    This problem is getting out of hand!! The bus driver and tge conductors permit should be cancelled and these crappy piece of deathtrap called private buses should be stopped immediately for the sake of the commoners... Even without brake fails these bus drivers drive like they own the road... Their punishment is too lineant.... Govt. should take strict action and either cancel their permit or give them a fixed speed limit... Wat kind of a driver is he driving his bus without maintenance???? Wat about the hand brake??? N how cowardly of him and his conductor to flee from the scene... The Govt.should be made aware of wat is happening in their country... Why can't they construct subways?? At least they are safer...

    When getting into a bus some years ago, the conductor gave the whistle just as my wife got up the first step, lost her balance and fell but the public were so good they shouted and dragged my wife from coming under the rear wheels. No bus for us in Mangalore ever since unless for long distances.

    Sir, this happens to many a sr. citizen who cannot pull themselves in with one leg on the ground hence your decision in avoiding local buses is very correct!!

    For that, in BEST buses in Mumbai, all sr. citizens, gravid females, physically challenged are allowed to enter from the front door, all else from the rear door!!!

    Cancel the license of both bus driver & conductor, charge a case against them & seize the bus & put huge penalty on the bus owner as he should be wholly responsible for the entire incidents. If owner denies to bear all losses, put him into imprisonment till he able to bear the losses. Bus owner might thought money makes all proper but officials should not give a room to it. There should be a strong lesson for all private buses who breaks traffic rules.

    I think the system runs in a way wherein, at the end of the day, the bus conductor has to give a particular fixed sum to the owner, irrespective of his total amount collected, hence the race against time to collect as much as possible because any extra collection is a bonus for them so issue of tickets is of no significance here!!

    Whereas in Mumbai the BEST service is professionally run and very strict action is taken against the conductor if a passenger is found traveling without ticket inside the bus, and also if he has extra cash in his cash bag!!

    All such improvements needs to take place with strong initiatives from influential people so that this place improves otherwise it will stay status quo and the spate of snuffing away of innocent life will continue unabated, after all who is the loser the common man and his family, those traveling in cars are hardly affected!! Jai Mangluru!!

    Why the driver and conductor fled the place if it was a brake failure.
    To stop this mishap make the traffic rules( not only in theory but practice it) strict, and also by improving roads like proper place for traffic, footpath. but i wonder how many years will take to see this system in this corrupt condition.

    when will the department make a move towards controlling the speed of buses and trucks ? department please take a drive in the city on a Saturday in civil clothes to get the clear picture. seat belt and helmets were a great move . now its the control of heavy vehicles.

    The RTA should suspend the Licence of the Driver and Operator if the Driver has been found to have been charged earlier.
    They come charging down and drive the daylights out of You...
    At the Signal junctions they blare Horns even when the signal is Red..
    Police should move around in unmarked vehicles and use their Walkie Talkie sets more often to nab n punish these Yamdhoots !!

    It is height of negligence & rash driving on part of these bus drivers in Mangalore. Finally the excuse is brake failure. They are supported by our traffic police & RTO authorities and no cases booked against them, as they indirectly support these bus owners and made it a silent/hidden law ... not to follow.... traffic rules. Traffic rules are only for others. Even if they break the traffic rule, & if a traffic cop standing there, he will just turn his face on the other side as if he doesn't know anything. In Mangalore city, the traffic rules are only for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles can ply like yamadhoota...!!

    Bus drivers not only city,express,service and also school,college think they own the roads once behind the wheel. The authorities should take action when they are on fault. When we are at Milagres junction bus stand the buses coming from Jyothi and are going towards State Bank stop were ever they like causing problems mainly to pedestrians. The RTO or the police should look into this.

    'Brake failure' is the easiest way out for these 'killer' bus drivers!!

    High time to introduce a professionally run Govt. backed bus service like the 'BEST' service in Mumbai!! Imagine Mumbai with over 1.25 crore population and the 'super' service provided by 'BEST' and compare with such a small third tier city bus service and you know!! Jai Hind!!

    Mangalore has highest Brake fails details or statistics needed:
    1. How many Brake fail related cases per company? ( more than 3 per driver or company should forfeit its licence to run)
    2. Can the authorities maintain a break fail stat website? ( should include company/ driver name - we can avoid these buses.
    3. for Common man getting a drivers licence is not very easy and rightly so. It is because there is no punitive action against the owners ( here take your protection fees- leave us to earn our money) that is the root cause of status Quo in Mangalore.
    3. When they make enormous money - giving fines is worth the risk and does serve as a deterrent.
    4. Punitive action :After a Brake fail related accident - company get a warning that second strike the bus will be suspended for a month( no bus from that company). Bus owners naturally may not agree to this - let them fight it out in courts- at least pay money for lawyers instead of RTO. The third strike- company close.

    Brake fails : cannot be an excuse to evade criminal negligence. Rash driving is a crime and the bus owner therefore by logic is criminal as he is making profit by putting pressure on the drivers to meet the deadline.

    These rogue buses are all outdated/ refurbished ones, the other day one had its axle fractured, anything can happen anytime in these buses!!

    Enough is enough, lots of blood has been let due to these 'yamdhoots'!! High time to ban all buses more than 10 years old and strictest action against the rash drivers and operators, is the only solution but is there a political will to implement it!!!
