Mangaluru, Jul 23: Thieves have been innovative these days as they are well aware that old tactics do not work. But innocent people can still become victims of old tactics. A person named Abdul Aziz lost Rs 8.5 lac in such a case.

As per details, Abdul Aziz had gone to Hampanakatta in city with his wife. He parked his car and sent his wife to the bank. While he was waiting, two persons came to him and said that his money was lying behind the car. Abdul Aziz got down from his seat and went behind his car. One of the two persons accompanied him.

Using this opportunity, another person pulled out the bag from inside the car and ran away. The other too joined him instantly. The laptop stolen contained Rs 8. 5 lacs, it is claimed.

Abdul Aziz has lodged a complaint at Bunder police station regarding the theft. Police have begun the investigations. The incident happened on Tuesday, July 21 near Syndicate bank at Hampanakatta.

    All these attention diverting psychological techniques are first 'invented' in Mumbai, this is a very old technique now imported to Mangluru!!

    Another simple one is applying some shitty substance on the victims clothes and then offering to help him washout while doing the 'act'!!

    Another one is to slyly warn motorists with costly cars of smoke emanating from the car, divert attention and then do the flicking act!!

    This is what happened to me once...
    I was waiting at the bustop and a car pulled in the side. Two men were in the car.

    "Sir, we have a brand new laptop to sell, see the receipt and the laptop"

    I checked the laptop, it was a very good, high config laptop, perfect working condition. The receipt was showing it was costing £850

    "Sir, i need some urgent money so i am giving it away only for £300, do you want to buy?"

    What a fantastic deal, i thought. without thinking much i decided to buy but did not have cash

    "Sir, we can go to a nearest ATM and you can withdraw the money, we will wait in the car while you get the money"

    They took me in their car and i told them where the ATM was. They waited in the car park while i went and brought the money. They showed me the laptop again and put it in the bag. I went to give them the money and collect the laptop bag

    "Sir, one minute let go back to the car boot"

    I went near the car boot and then the person called me back. They were still inside the car.

    "Sir, its ok, i thought you wanted a back home. give the money, here is your laptop"

    At this moment i got a doubt and asked them to open the laptop bag and show me the laptop again

    "Sir, you are wasting our time, we showed you the laptop already"

    I knew they had switched the bag and trying to fool me. I remembered reading on the Internet about the laptop switch scam where they divert the attention of the buyer and swap the bag filled with Potatoes. Without talking to them any further i walked away as fast as my feets would carry me.

    This happened to me as well in exactly same style in front of Vegetable market, Hampankatta, a couple of years ago. My wife was inside the market who left her bag in the front passenger seat. Someone tapped my window and indicated something under the car. I stepped out and picked up some small currency notes around 20/30 rupees. I picked them up and turned to talk to the guy and he was gone. We realized that my wife's bag which was left on the passenger seat missing only when we were driving back home. To cut the story short, after an extensive search in vain, along with the police around the area and the railway station, we were writing the FIR. Just then we got a call from someone to tell us that the bag is lying in a corridor above a medical shop near Clock tower. We rushed there with the police, found the bag and to our pleasant surprise,along with passbook, key bunch, also the 20,000 in cash too was intact. Praise God!

    hmm, interesting story. I think he was not a thief, he was only playing kalla police game. Can't believe he did not take any money from the bag when he had the opportunity.

    I am happy that Mr. Adolf got his belongings back and also happy that thief lost that 20-30 rupees he threw below the car to attract Mr. Adolf...

    I want to know what will happen when these robbers are caught. Yes they will be released on bail, inspite of so many cases against these robbers. When you get them make them black and blue. Take them aroung the town to clean each and every place. See our Mangalore will become swacha clean Mangalore.

    I think Hampankatta area might be covered with CCTV by police,shop owners and so that culprits could be nabbed.Such type of criminal activities often takes place and media(print&electronic)educate the people.Indeed a challenge to Mangalore Police commiserate.

    My frnd the dislikes that you got are from those who are black money holders. they don't like these kind of transactions. On the other hand they sit like vultures asking PM Modi to get back the black money and credit it to their accounts.
