Mogyorod (Hungary), July 20 (IANS): Force India drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez have expressed their desire to win points at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Hungarian Grand Prix will be held here at the Hungaroring racing circuit from July 24 to 26. Force India are currently at the fifth spot at the Constructors Championships standings with 39 points. Racing team Mercedes heads the championships with 371 points.
"I've always had good memories of racing in Hungary, ever since I first raced there in 2009 in GP2. It’s an unusual track with a tight and twisty layout. You have to find your rhythm because all the corners flow into each other and it’s easy to lose your momentum with just a small mistake," Hulkenberg, who hails from Germany, said in a Force India release on Monday.
The 27-year-old also said he was satisfied with his ninth place finish in the British Grand Prix. Hulkenberg is at the ninth spot in the driver standings with 24 points. Perez is at the 12th spot with 15 points. The list is led by Mercedes racing team's driver Lewis Hamilton (194).
"The last race at Silverstone was a lot of fun. I'm very happy with our performance across the whole weekend."
"After the first couple of laps in the new car I knew we had made a step in the right direction and I had a smile on my face. We obviously need to keep exploring our package, but it was satisfying to get a good result at the team's home race," he said.
Mexican driver Perez believes the Hungaroring racing track possess a big challenge and one has to be very precise near the low-speed corners but is optimistic he can end the race on a high.
"The Hungarian Grand Prix is always a cool event. The fans are very enthusiastic and they show lots of support for all the drivers. It's definitely an enjoyable weekend in a very historic city. The track itself is very technical: you need good traction to exit the low-speed corners and you have to be very accurate and precise," Perez said.
"Because it's so twisty, it feels like you are always in a corner and it's not easy to follow other cars or overtake, so a good qualifying result becomes even more important. It's also quite demanding on the tyres, so it's important to look after them when you can."
