Chittagong, July 19 (IANS): Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal has said beating the mighty South African cricket team to a series-win was a massive achievement for his team.
The aggressive opener believes they are capable of beating any major team in international cricket, reports bdnews24.com citing Tamim as having said on Saturday.
Chasing 170, Bangladesh created history with a resounding nine-wicket win here on Wednesday to clinch their first-ever One-Day International (ODI) series against the game's big boys 2-1. Earlier, after easily losing the first ODI by eight wickets, the hosts fought back convincingly in the second ODI to level the series.
This comes after they had whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 and won against India 2-1 in the 50-over format.
"Beating South Africa ... this is a huge moment for Bangladesh cricket. Our bowlers have bowled brilliantly. Soumya's batting was extraordinary. The team deserved a good innings from me. That's why I took time to play the right way. This Bangladesh team has the ability to beat any team of the world," said Tamim, who scored 61 not out in the final ODI.
The left-hander now plans to carry the confidence from the ODIs over to the Test series, scheduled to begin on July 21 at the same venue.
"Now, we are very confident. I hope we'll be able to continue this trend in the Tests too. There are lots of areas we need to work on in this format," Tamim added.
