Munich, July 18 (IANS): Italian champions Juventus' footballer Arturo Vidal is close to signing for German giants Bayern Munich though the deal has not yet been finalised.
"We're interested, but we're not yet so far that we've discussed details and signed contracts," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quoted as saying by bbc.co.uk on Saturday.
"I read that it was all wrapped up and I cannot confirm that. I hope at the end of the day he will come," he said.
The two clubs have been in negotiations for the last 24 hours to bring the 29-year-old Chilean midfielder to Germany.
Reports suggested that Bayern wanted to rope in Vidal four years ago after he left another German team Bayern Leverkusen but the latter did not allow him to join their rivals.
"(Then coach) Jupp Heynckes really wanted the player and we tried all we could to sign him, and the message we were given was that the player didn't want to come to us, but that's not true," Rummenigge said.
"It was Leverkusen who clearly turned down what was a better offer from us at the time purely because they didn't want Vidal to continue playing in the Bundesliga," he said.
Vidal has also been linked with a move to the English Premier League with Manchester United and Arsenal among the clubs reportedly keen to sign him.
