Sullia, Jun 26: As the Western Ghats from where River Kumaradhara gets water is experiencing incessant rain since some days, and also because of heavy rain which lashed Subrahmanya and surrounding areas on Wednesday June 24 and Thursday June 25, Kumaradhara bridge, which is located at a low elevation, got submerged in water.
The devotees coming to temple town, Subrahmanya, and students attending schools and colleges there, have suddenly come across a problem that has stopped them midway because of inundation of the bridge.
There is hope of the bridge getting temporarily out of water for small periods when rainfall recedes, but the prediction that the region will receive heavy rain on Friday too has made this prospect bleak. Going by the past experience, traffic here will remain disturbed for a couple of days from today.
A new bridge with higher elevation is being built now, works of which are under way. That bridge will serve as an alternative to this low level bridge. The people have been ardently praying that construction of this new bridge will be completed soon and opened for traffic at the earliest.
It is gathered that Hosmath bridge near Kadaba, which again is a low level bridge, and which happens to be an important link for people and vehicles coming from Mangaluru via Uppinangady, has also been submerged by swelling river.
