Mangaluru, Jun 26: Police personnel of Kavoor station in the city arrested a person and his alleged paramour for confining the wife of the former in a room of a rented house, and inflicting on her mental and physical torture. The arrests were made on Thursday June 25.
Ganapat (32), who hails from Rajasthan, residing in a rented house at Derebail Lohit Nagar in the city, and his girlfriend, Sumitra, stand arrested in this case.
It is learnt that Ganapat had married a lady named Swapna nine years ago, when he was living in Rajasthan. Later, he left her at his native place, and came to the city where he started to operate a shop dealing in stationery items, mobile phone spare parts etc at Kuntikan Junction here. Later, he began living with a lady named Sumitra at his residence.
About three months back, Swapna came to the city. It is said that both Ganapat and Sumitra quarreled with her, and confined her to a dark room inside the rented house for the last three months. She was not even being provided with proper food, and was subjected to physical and mental torture, it is alleged.
A police team led by Kavoor police sub-inspector, Umesh Kumar, raided the spot and took the accused into custody.
