Bengaluru Jun 26: The state government has decided to launch ‘Dr. B R Ambedkar Nivasa’ scheme for building 1.5 lac houses at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore for the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes families in the state.
Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya said that one lac houses will be built in rural areas and 50,000 houses will come up in urban areas.
Under ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Nivasa’ scheme, an assistance of Rs. 1.5 lac will be given for building the houses in rural areas, and Rs. 1.8 lac in urban areas, the minister said.
“The scheme is being launched with an aim to make Karnataka a hut-free state.” The minister added.
The government has earmarked a record sum of Rs 16,356 crore for the welfare of SC/ST communities in 2015-16. 93.50% of the budgeted Rs 15,833 crore was spent in 2014-15.
