Chikkamagaluru Jun 26: Mudigere police in Chikkamagaluru district intercepted three cars coming from Mangaluru and seized Rs 1.3 core cash which was being transported without any proper records on Thursday, June 25.
As per details, the police had a credible tip off that money was being transported from Mangaluru to Mallandur. So they laid a trap at Sabbenahalli near Mudigere. Sub inspector Gaviraj, ASI Somegowda, police personnel Umesh Vijayakumar, Ravindra and home guard Krishna intercepted three cars. Upon checking the cars, they found that two cars had a total cash of Rs 1.3 crore without records.
One car had Rs 80 lac and another had Rs 53 lac. Income tax officer R Narayana Aiyar said that from the initial investigation it was found that the money was unaccounted and no tax was paid on it. He said further investigations are on.
The police had to bring currency counting machine from SBM bank in Mudigere to count the cash. As per some sources, the third car managed to give a slip to the police. No arrests could be confirmed.
It is not yet known whom the money belonged to. Police said a case would be registered after thorough investigations.
