Mumbai, Jun 25: Director Subhash Kapoor who gave his audiences films like "Phas Gaya Re Obama" and "Jolly LLB" has recently released Guddu Rangeela which he says is one film where the female character in the film, playes by Aditi Rao Hydari is almost a central character.
Subhash, who claimed to have often been on the receiving end of complaints that his movies do no have strong women in them, said that, “She is as important as any other primary character in the film. In fact, she is the ringmaster of the lot. People have complaints that my films don’t have scope for strong female characters, but this time they won’t be complaining.”
Expounding on the central issue being focused on, in the movie, he said, “Guddu (Arshad) and Rangeela (Amit) are two orchestra singers who earn their bread and butter in Haryana. They like to believe their ‘jodi’ as Ram-Lakhan or Jai-Veeru. But, this is just the outside view of the story. The central thread of Guddu Rangeela is about a rampant issue in Haryana and Western UP: Honour Killing.”
His previous films have dealt with genuine issues and Subhash seems to have once again addressed another vital aspect of our society with a tinge of humour this time as well. He explained, “We all like comedy. Any story with a slight dose of humour can become a memorable one. Also, I like to tell my stories with a tinge of humour. It’s a great tool as it achieves a nice penetration. I like to deal with real people, real situation, and if humour will not be not there then it might become a little boring. I want to avoid that possibility. You must have seen Ronit Roy’s character in the trailer. That must have given you an idea about the central conflict line of the film. Though the film is aimed at entertaining you, it will deal with many things ranging from Khap Panchayats to honour killings. It is wrapped up in a comic envelope but it will also touch upon some real issues.”
