Bidar, Jun 24: A village accountant (VA), who was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 600 from an applicant, was subjected to seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a Lokayukta court here.
In addition, the guilty has also been levied with a fine of Rs 8,000.
Rajkumar, working as VA of Chambola village in the taluk, has been handed down this sentence.
Judge of the chief district and sessions court, Sanjeeva Hanchate, who also happens to be the judge of Lokayukta special court, announced this verdict on Tuesday June 23.
Rajkumar had been arrested when accepting bribe of Rs 600 on August 3, 2009 from Venkatrao Sherikar from Hippalgaon village, who had applied for the mutation of his property.
Afte prolonged hearing and based on evidence, the judge came to the conclusion that the VA was guilty of charges levelled against him.
Public prosecutor, R M Patil, had appeared in the case on behalf of Lokayukta.
