Kundapur/Mumbai, Jun 24: An Anand Travels bus travelling from Mangaluru to Mumbai met with an accident late night on Monday June 22, resulting in the death of one person and injury to four others.
The deceased has been identified as bus driver Mahabala Poojary of Kundapur.
The accident occured at Yellapur late in the night. It is learnt that the bus driver veered to the left in order to avoid a fallen tree on the highway, but in the process, the bus hit a truck.
The driver of the truck, cleaner Udaya and two passengers were injured in the accident and admitted to a local hospital, it is learnt.
Matthew of Anand Travels and other officials rushed to the accident spot and made arrangements for the bus passengers to reach Mumbai safely, source said.
Mahabala Poojary's mortal remains were brought to Kundapur on Tuesday June 23 and scores of people gathered to pay their last respects, including district incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. The locals said that Mahabala was an honest man and had been working as a bus driver from many years.
Yellapur police have registered a case.
