Mangaluru, Jun 23: “Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has insulted Blessed Mother Teresa by not placing the name board after her for Falnir road from the past 12 years”, alleged secretary of CPI (M), Sunil Kumar Bajal, in a protest held at Milagres Church on Monday, June 22.
Addressing the protesters, Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “It’s been 12 years since the Falnir road has been named Mother Theresa Road. The MCC has not mentioned the name of the road as Mother Theresa Road yet to the public so we have come forward to protest today. Mother Theresa was born in foreign country but she served the poor and sick people of our country as a mother. We cannot forget her service to society. Many leaders names are given to a number of roads in Mangaluru and MCC has insulted Mother Theresa by not availing time to place the board for the road from the past 12 years”.
“Another important point is that road stretch from Milagres church to Kankanady has three corporators of Christian community and yet they are silent on the issue. The 40th court ward development committee demands that MCC should immediately place the name board for the road and give due respect to Mother Theresa”, he stressed.
Addressing the protesters, parish priest, Fr Valerian D'souza, said, “MCC has failed in its duties. It is a government order to name the road after Blessed Mother Teresa. The name board for the road has to be placed immediately and thus respect Blessed Mother Teresa”.
Fr Francis D'Almeida, the campus minister of St Aloysius College, Yogish Jeppinamugeru, Vasudev Uchil and others were present.
