Kundapur, Jun 22: A Byndoor constituency-level rally was held here Monday June 22 demanding fair probe into the Akshata murder case. Other demands were also raised during the protest that was held at Sharada Vedike in Byndoor here.
17-year-old Akshata was murdered on June 17, allegedly by 19-year-old Sunil who was later arrested.
Leaders from various organizations under the banner of 'Horata Samiti' unanimously decided to petition various departments concerned. Proper road to backward village Henaberu and bus service, a bus stop at specified spot in the name of Akshata, clearing of bushes and forests near the area, uniform time table for all schools were some of the demands.
ZP member Gauri Devadiga, Raju Devadiga, Shankara Ankadakatte , Raghavendra Manipal, S D Henaberu, Subba Devadiga, Charan Byndoor, Vasantha Hegde, Robert Rebello , Cecelia Rebeiro, Devi Lavanya, Ganesh Karanth, Srinivasa Ubberi, Narayana Achary, Lakshmana, Gopala Naik, Naveen Chandra Uppunda, Vilas Kumar Nitte participated in the rally.
Girish Byndoor was the main organizer of this rally where hundreds of protesters participated from Byndoor bypass to Sharada Vedike.
Yeddyurappa and Oscar visit Akshata’s house
Byndoor MP B S Yeddyurappa visited the house of Akshata. Later, in an interaction with the reporters Yeddyurappa said, "I was in touch with police and the district administration from the beginning regarding the case. The accused have been already arrested. I have asked the police not to spare them."
"From her diary, it can be surmised that Akshata had foresight. I have told BJP Byndoor president to adopt her sister after her SSLC for higher education. After the police submit the charge sheet, Rs 3 lac compensation will be paid from deputy commissioner’s fund. Rs 5 lac will be released from MP fund for road and arrangements for government bus will be made in the area.”
BJP district president Thingale Vikramarjuana Hegde, secretary Gururaja Shetty, ZP member Geethanjali Suvarna, Byndoor BJP president Sukumar Shetty, Deepak Kumar Shetty, Sadashiva Paduvary and Suresh Bartavadi were present.
Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes also visited Akshata’s house and offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.
“Akshata had the ambition of becoming an engineer. We wish that her sister fulfils her dreams. I will ask the government to help her. MLA has already taken steps in the road work. I will ask the concerned department to speed up the process. Till a girl from Akshata’s family is employed by the government, the education department will employ her.” Oscar said later.
Byndoor MLA Gopala Poojary, taluk panchayat member Raju Poojary, Congress leader M A Gafoor and Raju Devadiga were present.
