Mangaluru, Jun 20: The police have changed the suicide case relating to finding the body of a person at Kellaputtige within the limits of Moodbidri police station on Thursday June 18 morning from a pond, into murder.
Jagadish & Suresh, the accused
Although efforts were made to project this as suicide, the police personnel have found through sustained interrogation that it was a case of murder in which two persons killed their own brother. They have been arrested and produced before the court.
Dinesh Rao (35), working as mechanic at Karkala, had been murdered. His brothers, Jagadish Rao (30), who works as priest at Subrahmanya, and Suresh Rao (42), who runs a shop near his residence, are accused of committing this crime.
Dinesh, who remained unmarried, used to get drunk often and kick up a quarrel with brothers after reaching home. On Wednesday night too he had fought with Jagadish, who had come home on a visit, and Suresh. After the minor skirmish aggravated into pitched battle, Jagadish reportedly hit Dinesh on the head with an iron road, after which Dinesh collapsed to the ground. When the family members turned panicky and started wailing, the two brothers took Dinesh away in the guise of getting him treated in a hospital. But they returned after tossing the body into the nearby pond, the policemen have found.
After the body was found from the pond on Thursday morning, police came and questioned the two brothers. The duo told the police that Dinesh, who was intoxicated, chased them in a fit of rage, but slipped and fell into into the pond accidentally. However, the policemen grew suspicious after observing that there was a deep gash on the rear side of the deceased's head. During sustained interrogation, the brothers confessed to their crime.
A case of murder stands registered against these two brothers. On being produced in the court here, the accused were remanded to 15 days' judicial custody. Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Ravikumar, visited the spot on Friday, gathered details of the case, and guided investigators.
