Doha-bound passenger arrested with 4 kg of cannabis at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Based on a tip-off given by Air India security, the customs officers of Mangalore International Airport on Thursday June 18 intercepted a passenger and seized over 4 kg of cannabis, commonly known as marijuana or ganja.

The ganja was seized from a passenger identified as Muhammed Ershad Chemberika Mohamood.

In a press note, the customs officers said that about 4.110 kilograms (including moisture content) of dark green dry leaves believed to be 'cannbis', a narcotic drug commonly known as marijuana or ganja, valued at about Rs 5 lac in the international market, was seized from the baggage found in possession of the said passenger.

Mohamood, aged about 31 years, a resident of Kasargod, was bound to Doha by Air India Express flight number IX821 scheduled for departure on the evening of June 18.

The passenger has been arrested and is being produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Mangaluru, for remand.

Further investigation is under progress.
