Beltangady, Jun 18: Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, will take part in the International Yoga Day celebration at Rajpath New Delhi on June 21, as chief guest.
Yoga Day will also be celebrated at Dharmasthala on that day, said principal of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Natoruopathy and Yogic Sciences, Dr Prashanth Shetty.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday June 17, Shetty recalled that a new Guinness Record was created in 2014 when 62,827 students had performed Yoga at the same time at 47 different centres in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Taking cognizance of this feat, the union government has extended invitation to Dr Heggade, he explained.
Dr Heggade will be the chief guest not only at the programme being held at Rajpath, but also at the International Yoga Conference being held that day at Vigyan Bhavan New Delhi.
"A month's free yoga camps are being organized in different parts of the state under the aegis of Shantivana Trust as per the directions of Ayush ministry of the union government. On June 21, about 7,000 people will be taking part in four centres in the mega Yoga Day celebration. On that day, about 4,000 students who were part of the Guinness Record stated above will demonstrate yoga postures from 8 to 8.30 am that day," he added.
On that day, 1,500 participants of the camp will demonstrate yoga postures from 7 am to 7.45 am at Amruthavarshini Hall. State youth services and sports minister, Abhay Chandra Jain, MLA, K Vasant Bangera, registrar of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Dr S Sachchidananda, RSS leader, Arun Kumar, secretary of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Trust, D Harshendra Kumar, and others will take part, he explained.
Shantivana Trust secretary, B Seetaram Tolpadithaya, Yoga and moral education project director, I Shashikant Jain, and head of Yoga department of naturopathy college, Dr Shivaprasad Shetty, were present.
