Bantwal, Jun 17: Minister of forests B Ramanath Rai held a day-long meeting in his office at B C Road on Tuesday June 16. The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioner (DC), district police commissioner, and other district-level officials. He listened to the progress and loopholes in the different departments.
Rai held discussions on various issues in the presence of the deputy commissioner and asked the officials to promptly respond to the difficulties faced by the people. The discussions included ‘Nirmala Bantwala’, construction of B C Road Park, and waste disposal by Bantwal municipality.
He ordered that all the potholes on the service road be filled on a temporary basis within a week as they pose problems to the traffic. He ordered the cleaning of the underground drainage. Rai asked the municipality, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and PWD to jointly raise humps in three directions near the B C Road bypass, install crash guards, signals, and reflector lights.
He asked that work on the government bus stand and government hospital construction be expedited. Rai directed that special traffic policemen be appointed during school and college timings.
He suggested construction of public bus stands at Thumbe Baddakatte, Melkar, and near Panemangalore Kallurti Temple, drainage beside B C Road, Bantwal, Kaikamba, and Panemangalore roads to prevent stagnation of water on the road, a high mast light at Panemangalore bypass, and repair of street lights on the Netravathi Bridge.
He asked the officials to enable two-way traffic on B C Road flyover to prevent hardships to vehicles plying below and safe passage for pedestrians. He said that a proposal will be submitted for the construction of an overpass for pedestrians.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, SP Dr Sharanappa, assistant commissioner Dr Ashok, ASP Rahul Kumar, circle inspector K U Belliappa, town station sub-inspector Nanda Kumar, traffic station police inspector Chandrashekarayya, Tahsildar Purandara Hegde, taluk panchayat executive official Girish, assistant Tahsildar Parameshwara Nayak, PWD executive engineer Dharmaraj, assistant executive engineer Umesh Bhat, Mescom executive engineer Umesh, Zilla panchayat member Prakash Shetty Thumbe, M S Mohammed, president, municipal council,Vasanthi Chandappa, Mayilappa Salian, B H Khader, and Abbas Ali were present.
The matter on waste management went to waste in the absence of a suitable discussion. Meanwhile, chief official Lena Britto said that another tender will be invited for the continued work on a waste disposal unit at Kanchinadkapadavu of Sajipa Nadu grama.
Chandrashekar Pathooru, personal secretary of the minister, said that another meeting will be held in the minister’s office to discuss pros and cons of the present meeting.
Krishnappa Allipade, president of the committee of social justice, said that a decisive protest will be held on Tuesday June 23 to urge repairs to B C Road service road. Speaking on the premises of Rakstheshwari Temple, he said that a pedestrian road should be constructed and the over bridge should be repaired. Drainage, parking for auto rickshaws, and tourist cars should be constructed. Leaders of various organizations were present.
