Mangaluru, Jun 13: As per the customer satisfaction index prepared by Airports Authority of India, the airport here has reached the enviable second spot in the country. The airport has done astonishingly well to suddenly rise to this position from the 27th place out of 53 airports in the country it had been allotted during similar exercise conducted in 2013. In the later bi-annual surveys, this airport had been placed at seventh and 14th positions respectively.
This survey comprises airports with less than 1.5 million passengers annually. The airports are adjudged on the basis of 33 parameters.
This time, Chandigarh airport has topped the list with 4.84 out of possible 5 points. Raipur, which had got first position earlier, has won the second position now behind Chandigarh. Chandigarh, which was second in the previous survey, has exchanged places with Raipur this time.
Waiting time for security clearance, waiting time at check-in, availability of baggage trolleys, and cleanliness are some of the parameters under which airports are judged. Dehradun, Udaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Amritsar, Madurai, Coimbatore, Kullu, Khajuraho, Varanasi and Trichy have been placed in positions 4 to 10.
It is gathered that the airport here got highest marks for cleanliness, ground transportation to airport, and helpfulness of airport staff. It got high marks under toilets availability and ambiance too, but a little less on baggage delivery. Its points were way below for inspection of identity card on arrival and passport/visa inspection, it is learnt.
